One of the topics covered in this week's discussion.
Where is the best location to place a Network Wiring Closet.
It is very important to make sure it is in a place where the signal is not being blocked.
Depending on how many floors or levels the building is.
If the building is multiple floors we would want to make the location
in the center or middle floor of the building. Placing a Network Wiring closet in
a basement would not be an ideal place for a Network Wiring Room or closet.
As it would be a less than ideal because it would block signals and it often may be a damp area.
For some reason all of the buildings that were not newer builds.
Always have their Wiring Rooms in the basement.
Recently I was visiting my parent's home and I noticed that they
were not getting a very good Network connection and they had just recently got an upgrade on their Internet Speed. After using Speed Test from their ISP. it showed they were not getting half of the internet speed that they upgraded to. After asking them where their router was located they said it was in the basement ..
Upon further inspection they had not replaced their Router in 4-6 yrs.
I told them to get in contact with their ISP as soon as possible.
To have them come out and first move their router to the first floor or second floor of their home.
Also to have the ISP replace the router.
Having too many basements that sometimes doubled as Tornado or Bomb Shelters
I am definitely certain that a basement is the worst location for any Networking Equipment.
