R. Palma BSIT220 Wk4 whois and tracert

This week we learned about the Whois and tracert commands. Using the whois command and choosing 5 random corporations  gave us the information on who hosts the domain, where to log complaints of abuse on the domain and information on the owner of the domain as well. Using the tracert command gave us an idea as to what kind of Network Connection these sites have.  Which ones were getting packets faster than another or which ones were losing packets when performing this command. While accessing as much information for some sites and very little for others made it seem like the ones that gave the most information about the site owners and hosts. Might also be at risk for Security issues. I would have to say the sites that gave us the least amount of information or did not allow us to perform certain commands were that way because they are pretty well secured.

One of the topics covered in this week's discussion. Where is the best location to place a Network Wiring Closet. It is very important to make sure it is in a place where the signal is not being blocked. Depending on how many floors or levels the building is. If the building is multiple floors we would want to make the location in the center or middle floor of the building.  Placing a  Network Wiring closet in a basement would not be an ideal place for a Network Wiring Room or closet. As it would be a less than ideal because it would block signals and it often may be a damp area. For some reason all of the buildings that were not newer builds. Always have their Wiring Rooms in the basement.  Recently I was visiting my parent's home  and  I noticed that they were not getting a very good Network connection and they had just recently got an upgrade on their Internet Speed.  After using Speed Test from their ISP. it showed they were not getting half of the inte...

Our Discussion question this week. Discuss whether there are too many standards organizations attempting to regulate the networking field. Consider whether consultation is necessary, and whether governmental or larger international bodies should be formed to manage standards. How would these bodies be formed and who should be in charge of their decisions? Brought up the possibility of whether or not Governmental or Large International bodies should be formed to manage Networking Standards. After some careful thought and reading  http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/t_InternationalNetworkingStandardsOrganizations.htm . My answer would still have to be no. Based on the information gleaned from reading this article as well as my own feelings on Government Interference in the IT world. The Tech world has the regulation covered quite well. As their are bodies that set Networking standards both in the United States and also Internationally. This is plenty of regulation for Networking standards...

Network Mgmt and Infrastructure wk 1

As I begin this class this week.  I come into with a little bit of knowledge of Networking and my Networking Troubleshooting is only limited to knowing how to troubleshoot an ISP at a Layer-1 level. We also use a tool called Superputty to check the network connections of various devices like POS Systems, ISPs , Switches. We are also able to see the mac addresses for those devices. So that we can determine that they are plugged into the correct port on the switch and has a stable connection. In all of my previous positions we have always had a Networking Team to relay Networking issues to. I have used Cisco Meraki applications in my previous job with Bob Evans as Tier 2 IT and POS specialist. Networking is something I am very interested in learning more about Networking and troubleshooting techniques. Currently due to COVD 19 we have been workig from home since March 16th, Our current method of contact for our Networking Team has been via Web Ex chat. Our company is currently in the...
